Verification must not be performed using a Gen AI tool.VCAT, Practice Note PNVCAT 11, Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (effective 22 December 2025), paragraph 21
Where generative AI is used to prepare submissions, VCAT expects the author to have verified that every citation exists, is accurate and is relevant, and says that verification must not be done with a generative AI tool.
Sentia Legis is built around that line. The machine does the slow part, opening each cited page and finding the words. It never marks anything verified. Only you can, and the record says so.
Each person records only their own act.
- Machinefinds the cited words on the page.
- Youverify. Nothing else can.
- Counselconfirms, or raises a query.
- Rulings carry to the next draft
- Privilege ruled once per document
- Every act recorded, never edited
A tool you can trust is clear about its limits.
-
Only a person verifies. The machine checks. The word verified belongs to a person's act, and the record shows whose.
-
Sources are shown exactly as they are.A passage is highlighted, never rewritten or tidied.
-
A check that could not run says so.It never looks like one that passed. It has its own mark, its own colour and its own word.
-
The judgement stays with you.It shows you what your sources say. It does not give legal advice.
What is built, and what comes next.
Built: Citation review
- A draft read with every cited sentence linked to its source page.
- The passage highlighted, including on scanned pages and drawings.
- Separate lines for the machine, the author and counsel.
- Queries raised and followed up, privilege ruled per document.
- Rulings carried across drafts.
Planned: Not built yet
- Finding the citations in a draft you upload, and linking each to your documents automatically.
- Accounts for firms and chambers, with each firm's documents kept apart.
- A Word copy for counsel, with each citation linked to its page.
- Beyond litigation: advice, due diligence and contract reviews that rest on other documents.
Justice within reach.
Taking a civil dispute to a hearing is beyond the means of most people, not only those on low incomes. Even people with savings or family behind them can find the cost of getting there out of reach, and expert evidence has to be paid for whatever the outcome. Sentia Legis exists to make the slow, expensive work of preparing and checking a case affordable to do well.
Barristers and solicitors who settle or file documents that rest on evidence.
People running their own matter, who are held to the same standard and have no one to check for them.
Built by someone who had to check every one.
Sentia Legis was not conceived in a boardroom. It grew out of hands-on litigation work, where every document filed rested on citations to particular pages of particular documents, and each one had to be right.
Checking them by hand was slow and easy to get wrong. The tools on offer either did the reading for you, which is exactly what a person must not hand over, or did nothing at all.
So we built the part in between: a system that does the mechanical work of opening every cited page and finding the words, and leaves the judgement, and the sign-off, with the person who answers for the document.
Sentia Legis
Legis is Latin for “of the law”: the letter, the statutes and procedures. We chose Sentia for its echo of sentire, to perceive and to judge: the spirit, the human context and the fairness the law is meant to serve.
